Ever think about a facelift?  When I see myself in the mirror, I ask myself, “How low can it go?”  It makes me want to stand on my head.  That may not work, but what am I going to do with all that skin sitting on top of my head?  Guess I could grab it, twist it, and put a band around it?

What if I am thinking about the spirit of life?  Something that will allow me to dwell on happiness.  I would really like that, and I should just do it.  But all the “should” in the world doesn’t make me feel better.  The problem could be that I want to feel better, when I know good and well that feelings are not logical or factually true.  Many feelings are not linked to real situations, just fear and anxiety.

At times, I believe feelings are linked to being tired due to strenuous work, lack of sleep, or boredom.  Maybe even when I am hungry, or I have overeaten.  The physical can play an overwhelming roll in feelings.

What can I do?  Just get up and move.  Do something that is pleasant or satisfies your reward center.  You could listen to uplifting music, bake cookies for a friend – like me, make yourself a really good cup of coffee, take a walk, take a ‘timed’ nap, work on a drawer that needs rearranging.  Do whatever your inner person needs to reassure yourself that you and your life are valuable and that you are really the captain of your inner self, not those depressive feelings.

I personally love listening to Irish music.  It does something to my soul.  It calms and stirs me at the same time.  I know I am weird, but I also like cold coffee and licorice.  Do whatever floats your boat or lifts you up.  I also love singing songs of praise to Jesus.

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

If all that I have suggested doesn’t work to lift your spirit, then go eat a very very hot pepper.  No, it won’t lift your spirit necessarily, but it will take your mind off your gloom and doom.  Jesus is always there to love you, encourage you, and provide purpose for your life.
