When I think of Easter, I get a jumble of ideas; of course, there is Jesus, the resurrection; the Easter egg hunts; the new dresses. Right now, at Sanctuary Family Farms, we just received some 60 new baby chickens. My mind thinks about those little chirping creatures running around. I see life – new life: cute, innocent, vibrant, very much alive.
These guys do not know what awaits them. They are just so happy to escape the shell that encased them. They are now free to live their purpose. There is no confusion as they guzzle down food, scratch like “big birds,” and turn their little heads skyward to swallow the water. Life – God created life full of hope and expectation.
Also, now our mama goats give birth to little black and white spotted creatures. They are absolutely delightful running, dancing around, and always tormenting their mothers for more milk. That is life – free, joyful, innocent. The fruit trees are starting to bloom. The white and pink blossoms just make you feel alive.
This is new life – the beginning of a fruitful harvest. These things remind me of Easter: the life, the hope, the innocence, the beauty of God’s creation. It is the end of the dormancy of winter. The cold and chill are gone for us. We have survived the dark, lifeless winter. Now life returns.
This is Easter. This is Jesus – the resurrection and the life. The death of the cross is passed. Now from death to life, He has risen. Like the beauty of the fruit blossoms, the innocence of the baby goats, and the eagerness for life like the little chicks, Jesus is eager to tell the world, “Because I live, you shall live also. I am the resurrection and the life. He that believes on me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).
Forgive me if I do not relish in Easter eggs and new Easter clothes. Those are okay, but all around me, I see resurrection and life.

In this episode, Pa and Michaela discuss the grief of death for those left behind. Pa reminds us that death has no sting, and the grave has no victory for believers in Christ, because we go on to eternal life with no more suffering and pain.
