Around the Supper Table

Pastor Mike, Dad, Pa, . . . whatever you call him shows the relationship that you have with him.  Over the years, Pa has carried out the mission that Christ gave him when he first called him to the ministry, “Tell them that I love them.”  As a result, he’s been instrumental in helping to heal people through God’s love, but the ministry that has probably given him the most return on his love investment has been his family.

Mike and Sarah have been married for more than 50 years now and raised two sons, Christopher and Jeremiah.  Later in life, they adopted their third son, Lee, and all three boys are now guiding their families in the Christian faith.  Since retiring from pastoring a church, these blogs are the result of Pa and the family he’s created in his current ministry wanting to share our life with others in hopes that they will serve Christ as well.

If you want to understand our thoughts behind a blog, get to know the author more, or you’d just rather listen to us, join us on YouTube where we read our blogs, then discuss them with another member of the family, usually Pa.  Trials and Triumphs is also on YouTube.

We also share daily Bible verses on YouTube that are available through phone calls if you contact us.  These daily verses, and the original commentary, are shared by each member of our farm family from the youngest child to the eldest leader.  We pray that the thoughts and prayers that go into preparing these verses and blogs touch you with God’s truth and love, and we appreciate feedback and prayer requests.

Around the Supper Table #123 – Selling Salvation

It all began in grade school, when I would go to school the first day with my 8-crayon pack in my cigar box (Yes, I’m that old!), along with my big fat pencil, and my Big Chief tablet.  Many other..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #122 – Children of the Tribe IV – BE a Good Member of Your Tribe

In our society we are bombarded with the idea that men and women are equal. It has gotten to the point that our society can’t even distinguish what a woman is.  If you want to be one, you are one...... Read More

Around the Supper Table #121 – A Calm Psalm

I like to turn to Psalm 100 in the morning.  It is a true comfort to read, “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endureth to all generations.”  That is like a calming wave of warmth that..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #120 – Boast in my Infirmities

I’ve shared that I struggled with a good dose of anxiety and depression as a young adult.  It is something I don’t discuss often, because I don’t like looking backwards, and it can be embarrassing.  I am also terrified that..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #119 – Good Seed

Not too long ago I was picking black-eyed peas and discovered that some of what I was picking was not black-eyed peas at all. They were creamer peas. When ordering seed, we asked for black-eyes, but something must have gotten..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #118 – Go Ye into all the World

Recently, while finishing up dinner around the supper table, Pa asked us what our role was in the Kingdom?  And then it progressed to who are we most like in the Bible?  These were difficult questions for me to answer. ..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #117 – What is Your Excuse?

The Bible says that when we are hearers of the word, but not doers of the word, it is like someone who sees himself in a mirror then walks away forgetting what he has seen.  To me that means that..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #116 – Children of the Tribe III – Leadership

Last time I wrote about Godly discipline of children. I discussed how discipline was primarily training a child and how punishment may be part of this, but it is not the core of discipline (Proverbs 22:6).  This week I want..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #115 – Children of the Tribe II – Discipline

Last week I wrote a blog about some of the core ways a parent raises their children to be psychologically healthy and have a good relationship with God.  These included unconditional love, discipline, and the belief that God has a..... Read More

Around the Supper Table #114 – Children of the Tribe

When I was in school, my performance was less than stellar. What other kids were able to get done in class, I usually took home for homework. I was always amazed in school that kids said they were bored. I..... Read More
