America belongs to Americans.  Who are Americans?  First, who they are not.  They do not represent a single race, or an educational level of achievement, nor a social class.  They are identified by morals – simple, collective morals like doing to others as you would have them do unto you.  Last week, while checking out at a local grocery store, the checker miscounted the amount of change I was to receive.  Unknowingly she gave me $10 too much.  I checked the money and handed her back the correct amount.  She said, “Thank you.  I try to do to others what I would want them to do to me.”  I said, “Well, this is the day that your morals paid off.  I also practice the Golden Rule.”

In the early days of our country, people had no sense of entitlement.  No one owed them anything.  They earned whatever they got through blood, sweat, and tears.  Freedom was not free.   It was purchased with hardships and suffering.  No one complained, because all they wanted was the chance to be whatever God could make them.  Many died willingly leaving their children with a legacy, a birthright, of sacrifice and a desire to be free.  The children learned early that this freedom handed to them must be maintained through responsibility, or it would be lost.

Many generations from Concord, Lexington, Bunker Hill, the crossing of the Delaware, and many more have forgotten the sacrifices.  When I sat staring at the thousands of white crosses in rows at Arlington Cemetery, I cried.  These men and women of all colors, backgrounds, from every state in the Union all had one thing in common: they believed that freedom was worth the cost.

Truth will prevail, because Jesus is truth, and He will prevail.  He shed His blood believing that God the Father had a master plan to free men and women from sin.  Truth about life and what real freedom means cost Him everything.

If you’re not moral, principled, or responsible, and a disciple of Jesus, you’re not free but a slave.  Live free or die fighting for freedom.  Even as Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”  Never give up your belief and morals, or you give up yourself.
