It is not always easy to do what we are told.  Especially when it goes against what we want to do.

My name is Bekah, and I am 12 years old.  Pa’s second grandchild.  Known for being crafty, a little annoying, and loving God.  In the past year, I was saved and baptized when I prayed to God, and He answered my question through my fleece.  With that commitment to accept Jesus as my Lord and savior, I have really had to work on being obedient to God.

Sometimes it can be hard to do what God says instead of doing what I want.  So, one thing I do to make sure I am hearing God is I pray and tell God I choose Him no matter what, even if I don’t want to do it.  But I also have to be willing to listen, even if it is a possibility that I don’t want to do something.  I also know that it’s God talking to me if I have peace.  Even if it is something I don’t want to do, God gives me peace because I have turned to Him.

I have many reasons for not wanting to do something that God has told me to do.   I am embarrassed, I want to do something else, or when Satan convinces me to not do what God says.  I know that I don’t have to be embarrassed to do what God says because in Psalms 25:3 it says, “Yea let none that wait on thee be ashamed:  Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.”  The Bible comes from the mouth of God.  If God is never wrong, then neither is His word, and I should not be ashamed.  If God tells me to go help my mom, and I want to play on my phone, I try to think about which one would glorify God and show His love.  I know that Satan can, and will, try to deceive and lie to me, so I have three questions to tell if it is God or Satan:

  • Is it disobeying my parents?
  • Does the Bible say it’s O.K. to do?
  • Does it give me peace OR fear and worry?

If it is not disobeying my parents, not disobeying the Bible, and it gives me peace, then I know that it’s God.

I know that even if I don’t want to do what God has told me to do, if I do it, it will all work out. I know this, because God can never fail.  Therefore, if I do what God has told me, and I follow His purpose, then I will not fail.   Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”
