Ingredients
Cookies
- ¾ cup butter, softened
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup apple sauce
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 2 ¼ cups flour
Caramel Icing
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- ¼ cup cream
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar, separated
Instructions
Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Lightly grease cookie sheet.
- Cream your butter and both sugars.
- Add and mix the remaining ingredients.
- Refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour before placing on cookie sheet.
- Scoop cookie dough about 2 tablespoons at a time and evenly space on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Caramel Icing
- In a medium saucepan, combine butter, cream, and brown sugar.
- Heat over medium heat stirring constantly.
- When it starts to boil, remove from heat then stir in vanilla and 1 cup of the powdered sugar until well blended.
- Cool, then add remaining powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time until it is desired consistency.
- Ice each cookie and allow to dry before stacking for storing.
